Natural Burials & Ashes Interment
We understand death planning is a deeply personal process. We help guide you through the natural burial and ashes interment options.
Natural burial grounds
These days, more than ever, we have to be aware of the impact we have on the planet in everything we do – including dying. Traditional burials can have significantly negative consequences for the environment, as a result of non-biodegradable and toxic materials being used in the manufacture of coffins, or the damaging chemicals involved in processes such as embalming.
At Tithe Green, we believe in giving back to the earth instead at our eco-friendly burial space. We've been operating our natural burial site for over 30 years, making us one of the first and oldest green burial companies in the UK. We’re a family-run business that believes in offering a positive and uplifting alternative to traditional funerals that is both completely environmentally-friendly and cost-effective.
We were voted Best Burial Ground in the UK in 2018.
What are natural burial grounds?
A natural burial with Tithe Green is like no other burial.
We have over 70 acres of beautiful, natural burial grounds, incorporating both a wildflower meadow and a woodland burial site situated in Oxton, Nottinghamshire, and in Ketton, Rutland, making them easily accessible for those in and around Nottingham, Leicester and Peterborough.
Suitable for both burials and ashes interments, they also act as a place for trees and wildflowers to grow and flourish, where all kinds of wildlife can live and prosper and where people can visit to reflect, explore and connect with nature all year in a place of quiet and tranquil beauty.
Environmentally-friendly funeral options
It’s not just the materials and processes involved in the actual funeral that make our service such an eco-friendly option.
By locating our burial plots and ashes plots in wildflower meadows and woodland, we’re also making a positive contribution to the local environment by planting memorial trees or wildflowers that will attract wildlife, support biodiversity and help our declining bee populations. Not only does this create a beautiful space, but it means you or your loved one will live on through nature.
If you’d like more information about our natural burial grounds, or you would like to discuss all your options at Tithe Green, please give us a call. Otherwise, you can book your green burial online now.

Minimising the environmental impact of burial by allowing only eco–friendly and biodegradable materials. We are proud of our sustainability efforts to create special woodland and wildflower meadows.
REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT
Green burials can positively contribute to the environment by planting trees. Plus it eliminates toxic chemicals used in coffins, the embalming process, and caretaking of cemetaries.
REDUCE YOUR COSTS
Reduce financial stress in a difficult time, as green burial plots are more affordable than traditional burial, and lets the body return to earth more organically. See below for more details on costs.
MAINTAIN TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS
A green burial does not mean families need to forgo celebrating their loved ones. Many people will hold religious or non-religious funerals, memorial services or celebrations
Only biodegradable materials like natural wood, woven willow, wicker, raw cotton and cardboard can be used for coffins or shrouds. Or biodegradable urns, meaning there is no concrete, plastics or metals use that are bad for the earth.
Traditional burial puts tonnes of wood, metal, steel and litres of embalming fluid into the ground, and coffins are expensive. Where as green burial vessels start from as little as £100.
People gathering in nature, honouring natural processes, connecting with the earth and the seasons can have a comforting effect on those grieving.

“Peaceful and still resting place. A straight forward process with stress taken from an emotional time. Dad laid to rest with ease. Just right.
