Choose a tree not a tombstone

An environmentally friendly alternative to traditional burial.
We offer direct cremation, along with natural burials and ashes interment plots, in a meadow or woodland, putting the planet and people first.

A natural alternative to cemeteries

We understand death planning is a deeply personal process. We help guide you through the natural burial and ashes interment options.

Here to Help Guide You

More than ever before, being aware of our impact on the planet is important – including dying. Traditional burials can have significantly negative environmental consequences, as they use non-biodegradable, toxic materials or chemicals used to manufacture coffins, or in embalming.

For over 30 years, we've run natural burial sites, offering an eco-friendly and affordable alternative to traditional funerals. As a family-run business, we believe in giving back to the earth, and offering a positive, uplifting alternative to traditional funerals.

We're here to help, and explain the process and options. Click the button below to learn more.

WHAT WE DO

REDUCE YOUR COSTS

Reduce financial stress in a difficult time, as green burial plots are more affordable than traditional burial, and lets the body return to earth more organically. See below for more details on costs.

REDUCE CARBON FOOTPRINT

Removing the use of toxic chemicals from coffins, embalming and cemetery, plus planting new tress can positively contribute to the environment.

MAINTAIN TRADITIONAL CELEBRATIONS

Families can still celebrate their loved ones on site - many will hold religious or non-religious funerals, memorial services or celebrations.

Traditional burial puts tonnes of wood, metal, steel and litres of embalming fluid into the ground, and coffins are expensive. Where as green burial vessels start from as little as £100.

Only biodegradable urns or materials like natural wood, willow, wicker, raw cotton & cardboard can be used for coffins or shrouds. Meaning there is no concrete, plastics or metals use that are bad for the earth.

People gathering in nature, honouring natural processes, connecting with the earth and the seasons can have a comforting effect on those grieving.

What are natural burial grounds?

A natural burial with Tithe Green is like no other burial.

We have over 70 acres of beautiful, natural burial grounds, incorporating both a wildflower meadow and a woodland burial site situated in Oxton, Nottinghamshire, and in Ketton, Rutland, making them easily accessible for those in and around Nottingham, Leicester and Peterborough.

Suitable for both burials and ashes interments, they also act as a place for trees and wildflowers to grow and flourish, where all kinds of wildlife can live and prosper and where people can visit to reflect, explore and connect with nature all year in a place of quiet and tranquil beauty.

Environmentally-friendly funeral options

It’s not just the materials and processes involved in the actual funeral that make our service such an eco-friendly option.

By locating our burial plots and ashes plots in wildflower meadows and woodland, we’re also making a positive contribution to the local environment by planting memorial trees or wildflowers that will attract wildlife, support biodiversity and help our declining bee populations. Not only does this create a beautiful space, but it means you or your loved one will live on through nature.

If you’d like more information about our natural burial grounds, or you would like to discuss all your options at Tithe Green, please give us a call. Otherwise, you can book your green burial online now.

S. Webber Testimonial

“Peaceful and still resting place. A straight forward process with stress taken from an emotional time. Dad laid to rest with ease. Just right.

M. Allen Testimonial

"This site is beautiful and took away the traditional feel of a funeral. It presented a real warm feeling of celebration rather than sadness. Couldn’t speak highly enough.“

S. Dobson Testimonial

”Tithe Green has such a calm, soothing atmosphere that we are always comforted by our visits. It is exactly the sort of environment where Roger would feel at home, the perfect place to lay him to rest.”
