Does there have to be a funeral service?

No, there doesn’t have to be a funeral service with natural burial. We can do everything without anyone attending if that’s what works best for you. We’re also very comfortable hosting all sorts of different services, from small, simple gatherings to bigger events. We’re very flexible.

How do I arrange a funeral at Tithe Green?

Accepted Answer

When arranging a funeral, most people enlist the help of a funeral director, so it’s very common for us to work closely with them to put arrangements in place.

If you’re not working with a funeral director, you can get in touch with us directly and we can work with you to arrange a natural burial, either attended or unattended. We also commonly handle all the arrangements for ashes interments, but you are more than welcome to use a funeral director if that is your preference.

If you need recommendations, we can point you towards some good funeral directors we’ve worked with before.

Question 3

Can we have a celebration of life or remembrance service after a direct cremation?

Accepted Answer

Of course you can. Many choose to have an informal but very personal service to say a few words at the place of interment, or you can have a larger gathering or religious service if that is your preference. Basically, whatever you feel is most appropriate to the person whose life is being remembered and celebrated.

How long are services allowed to last?

We usually schedule one hour for natural burials, or half an hour for natural burial of ashes. If you think you will need longer than this, please let us know in advance so we can ensure there will be no crossover with other services.

How many people can attend a service?

Accepted Answer

We have no formal limit for how many people can attend a service, but we find that when numbers exceed about 100 people this can be a bit more challenging logistically. The main reason for this is available parking and space on site to accommodate everybody. If you think you’ll have more than a hundred people attending, let us know and we can discuss how to help make it work.

Can burials and ashes interments happen all year round?

Burials and interments of ashes in the wildflower meadow and woodland burials take place throughout the year. However, interment of ashes in the woodland and all memorial tree planting only take place between November and February.

Can I reschedule a burial or service if bad weather is forecast?

Accepted Answer

We will generally go ahead with scheduled burials except in the event of extreme weather. Most services will be organised by a funeral director and it is usually their decision as to whether to proceed or postpone — we can be flexible where required.

Question 8

What do I need to bring on the day of burial or service?

Accepted Answer

For natural interment of ashes, all you need to bring with you are the ashes (in a biodegradable container) and a cremation certificate, which will have been issued by the crematorium.

For natural burial, your funeral director will usually organise everything so there is nothing you’ll need to bring. If you’re not working with a funeral director we can help you work through the arrangements by chatting on the phone or on email.
